A leisurely row upstream from Richmond upon Thames in London is the island of Platt’s Eyot. Used in the 19th century to grow willow for basket making, and as a factory for torpedo boats in the 20th, much of it is now derelict and a great urbex style environment for photography.

I spent another very enjoyable Saturday afternoon there with Andrew and some of the London Photography Social regulars clambering through the undergrowth in search of great locations to shoot our amazing and gorgeous model for the day, Jade Lyon. These battered old hanger doors were definitely a favourite with the guys and their crumbling and faded green paintwork perfectly contrasts the red of Jade’s dress.

On the part of the island where the trees grow thickest is an old white van. It’s certainly seen better days. Lichen and moss determinedly cling to it, rust gnaws at its body and bird droppings have rendered its windscreen completely opaque. It lost its wheels long ago (it’s propped up on bricks). Unable to escape, the ground elder reaches to claim it. 🌿
